Writer Pictures is 10 years old! For a company most people will never have heard of we think that’s pretty good going. Yes we got this far, but we thought it’s about time we let a few more people know of the good work we do. So here’s a colourful introduction to our small picture library, a wealth of photographic talent and a rights-managed archive of some 300,000 portraits of published writers, writers of all kinds: contemporary and historical, well known and unknown. Authors, academics, poets, philosophers and way beyond…
…today we give you the fashion columnist extraordinaire — aka the Blogger.
First we got in touch with our friends at the brilliant Edinburgh-based startup Crave with a two-part mission on our minds: to illustrate that the writer is a weird and wonderful creature, one that comes in all shapes and sizes; and to showcase what our talented pool of photographers are really capable of.
Yes, we thought it would help that this particular writer is interesting, mysterious and downright stunning, and that for a fashion shoot we could choose a location as exotic as we pleased, but surely that’s just an example of our good judgement?
So please meet Tara Nowy, aka Taz – @TaraNowy.
Disco fiend. Scribbler. Self-confessed feeder. Day dreamer. Future cat lady. Sushi consumer. Sarcasm abuser. Jacket collector. Caffeine addict. Gerglish speaker. Paisley magpie. Art admirer. Smoker. Rambler. Bed dweller. Boho goth. Men with husky voices baring acoustic guitars. Sunrises. Cake. Rings. Crystals and stones… born in the wrong era.
Here’s the full set from the shoot.
We warned you she was a bit boho, but she’s a dream to photograph, much improving both my day and my portfolio. Thanks Taz! Also a huge super special thanks to the amazing Molly Sheridan for Hair and Make Up – @MJSheridanMUA
Look, she even gave us the opportunity to shoot an in-camera “Schindler“.
We’re not a big company nor a rich company but we really love what we do. Our small team of amazing production staff manage the archive and organise licences for media outlets and publishers all around the world, but the 250+ photographers we work with around the UK and in numerous far-flung overseas locations are our core strength. It’s a rare group of people who get to photograph only writers and our photographers are no exception. We shoot editorial and commercial work for all manner of clients: portraits to interiors, fashion to still life, news to events and the full spectrum of subjects and styles in-between.
Click on any of the name links to the right of this page and you can see the huge range of talent we’re proud to work with. Pretty soon we’ll introduce them all on the exciting project that is findr.me but we’ll save that story for another day!
Why not contact us today and see what we could create for you?
Taz is the first star in what we hope will be an occasional photographic highlight for this here blog. We’ll call it “Lighting Literature”.
If you’re a photographer or writer with a creative idea for a shoot please consider this an invitation to showcase it here on Writer Pictures — just reach out and let us know!
